High Hopes (2019)

High Hopes is a love letter and testament to the Huddersfield music scene. Inspired by the musicians he'd met since moving there for university, Dan wanted his first album to be something that he couldn't have made anywhere else.

Recorded in spare rooms filled with borrowed equipment, and duvets draped over mic stands, the album features musicians from a host of musicians who helped shape the sound of Here's The Steeple:

Pat Allison - Clarinet

Rob Crisp - Clarinet

James Wood - Bass clarinet

Chris Ruffoni - Trumpet

Ben Isaacs - Trumpet

Liz Allison - Violin

Megan Swinchin - Viola

Christine Avis - Cello, backing vocals

Liv Walters - Backing vocals

Fran Wheeldon - Bass, backing vocals

Billy Poulter - Drums

Additional vocals: Jess Baker, Leo Brazil, Luke Granata, Anna Rogge

Recorded by Fran Wheeldon, Mixed by Fran and Dan, Mastered by Syke Lane Audio. Artwork by Steve Thorley.

The album was launched in January 2019 with a chamber orchestra featuring most of the musicians on the recording. It has since received support from BBC 6Music, Fresh On The Net, and BBC Music Introducing on Radio Tees among others.

"It sounds fantastic! I've had it on in my car for months!"

Chris Price, The Unthanks

So High EP (2023)

From 2019 to 2023, Dan worked with a band featuring Christine Avis (cello, backing vocals), Rob Mear (guitar), Fran Wheeldon (bass, backing vocals), and Billy Poulter (drums). While the pandemic scuppered some of their plans, they were able to release new arrangements of some of the tracks that weren't quite ready for High Hopes, plus two remixes from musicians who featured on the album.

The EP was recorded by Fran at Vibrations studios, Huddersfield, mixed by the band, and mastered by Dave Jordan. Artwork by Steve Thorley and Lauren Thorley Illustration.
